2016 has started with a bang!

Welcome to Robin Hood Tax Ireland (RHTI), who joined our campaigning family last week.

David Hillman, Stamp Out Poverty’s director, attended the launch and joined an Irish colleague on primetime breakfast radio, discussing the need for an Irish FTT to tackle poverty and climate change at home and abroad.

The Irish Government has so far resisted joining the likes of Germany and France who are moving forward with the FTT. By registering your support here, you can help the Irish campaign put pressure on their Government.

In January, the release of blockbuster, The Big Short brought the spectacularly irresponsible behaviour of the financial sector into plain view.

Yet, eight years on from when the movie is set, things have not changed. Last December we discovered that 5 of the 10 big banks did not pay any corporation tax. Despite this, the city’s financial regulator relaxed its investigations into banking behaviour.

More than ever, we need a strong FTT for people and planet both to regulate markets and generate much-needed revenue!
